Pardee Collegiate Instituttion opened it's doors on Tuesday, September 10, 1867 after the North Male and Female Institution
closed it's doors. Faulty members listed for 1867-68 school year were Rev. J.A. Mc Afee (president), J.D. Merriwether,
S.L. Mc Afee, Miss M.E. Shipp, Mrs. A.W. Mc Afee, Miss E.A. Murdock, and Miss O.E Carter.
*An excerpt from the "Louisiana citizen's letter" dated Jan. 23, 1868 states, "Without wishing to say anything
detrimental to our numerous schools, we wish to call attention to 'Pardee Collegiate Institute'.....the pupils attending which
havebeen under examination at the College building for the past three days, being the close of the first term......."*

build up an institution of learning that our city may well be proud of. . ."*
